NH People of Faith to Abolish the Death Penalty Gaining Steam!
NH PFADP Planning Committee
NHCADP Grows!   The New Hampshire Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty has a new community organizer, Mr. Ray Bilodeau. Mr. Bilodeau will assist with projects run by NH PFADP as part of our goal to educate the public about the true costs of the death penalty, both in tax payer dollars and the emotional toll on family members of murder victims.

A NH PFADP Planning Committee is being formed to assist communities and people of faith across the state throughout 2011.

NH Kairos Conference: A Spring NH Kairos Conference and other activity are in the works 2011. Stay tuned for date of May Conference details.

You are welcome to participate in the NH PFADP as planning committee or local supporter.

Letter to the Editor Project

Another way to do this is to submit regular letters to the editor.  LTE is a powerful advocacy tool that we need to wield frequently.  Please respond if you can write one letter a month.  A special list to receive "talking points" for letters will be provided.

What would writing a letter to the editor involve?  The Union Leader published a letter from our member Christy Dolat Bartlett.

The header was Death Penalty is a Barbaric Practice.

A powerful letter that was signed by 76 murder victim family members and submitted to the Connecticut Legislature.

Equal Justice USA says:  This morning 76 people who lost a loved one to murder released a letter calling for Connecticut to end the death penalty. The family members at today’s event all balked at the concept that the death penalty is needed for those especially “heinous” crimes.

“Losing my son was heinous. But when he was murdered, there was no discussion of the death penalty,” said Pamela Joiner. “In fact, there was little discussion of Jumar at all. I fought tooth and nail just to get people to stand up and pay attention. It is shameful that we spend millions of dollars and countless hours on a few capital cases when there are so many of us with unmet needs.”

In their letter to the legislature, the families explain that the “most heinous” criteria for death sentences is not only unhelpful, it is offensive.  The old excuse – that the death penalty is “for the victims’ families” – no longer has even a shred of credibility. Today’s event shows that, in fact, it is “for the victims’ families” that we need to end the death penalty.

This is the sort of message that we need people here in New Hampshire to hear. Your Letters to the Editor can help. Please sign up to write just one letter a month. Spread the word! Forward to friends.
