The Board of Directors of the New Hampshire Council of Churches is thrilled to announce we are hiring a half-time Executive Director. The right candidate for this position will help the Council show up as a consistent, progressive values-driven voice in the public square, shepherd our development strategy, and work with our member denominations to organize events aligned with the Council’s values.

Half-time Executive Director – Job Description
Job Title: Executive Director, part-time, non-exempt
Reports to the New Hampshire Council of Churches Board
Weekly Hours:
● 20 hours, flexible
● Remote day-to-day; some in person events required
Mission of the NH Council of Churches:
The NH Council of Churches unites New Hampshire congregations and faith leaders, advocates for the worth and dignity of every person, and uses faithful witness aligned with Jesus’ ministry to build a Granite State that reflects God’s inclusive love.
The Executive Director:
Implements the mission of the NH Council of Churches; builds its institutional capacity and sustainability; and serves as an ambassador and organizer for the Council, our member denominations, and their congregations to be a progressive faith voice in the Granite State.
Duties Include
Relationship Building:
● Nurture relationships with denominational leaders
● Build relationships with congregations and individuals from the NHCC member denominations and partner organizations
Advocacy & Witness:
● Advance the interests of the NHCC member denominations by testifying at the State House, speaking at events, showing up to witness events, and mobilizing others to do the same
● Connect and/or convene denominational leaders and congregational leaders who share common interests or goals
● Work with coalitions and like-minded partner organizations on priority issues
Events:
● Plan and execute 4-6 public-facing events including trainings, community gatherings, and political actions that further the mission of the NHCC
Development and Financial Management:
● Work with the Board to plan and implement annual development goals, especially its dues-paying program for congregations and individuals
● Solicit donations and grants from individuals, congregations, denominations, foundations, and businesses
● Manage contacts and donor database
● Nurture relationship with donors through thank you notes, direct contact, and relationship building
● Work with the Treasurer and the Board regarding the financial health of the organization
● Coordinates with the bookkeeper
Communication:
● Write and send regular newsletters
● Collaborate with Board representatives to update website and social media
Board Relationships:
● Report to NHCC Board at Board meetings and as needed
● Work with the Board to implement NHCC’s strategic plan
● Attend monthly Board meetings
Compensation:
● $40,000/year
● Some evening and weekend meetings or events required
Professional Expenses:
● Professional expense, conference, and training budget line item to be determined
● Travel mileage reimbursement
Vacation / Time Off:
● Four weeks paid vacation
● One-week paid leave for professional development/continuing education or retreat
Required Qualifications:
● Familiarity with New Hampshire faith communities
● Knowledge and comfort with working ecumenically (UCC, Episcopal, UMC, UU, ELCA, PCUSA, Quaker)
● Experience with faith-based community organizing, advocacy, & witness
● Experience with fundraising/development
● BA or BS; Master’s preferred
● Proficiency in computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, email and some web site capability
Preferred Qualifications:
● Familiarity with NH legislative process
Office Space:
● The Executive Director will work out of their own home office space
Some travel in NH will be required
